Accountant General (AG) for the Ministry of Finance & Treasury (MoFT) told the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) recently that the operational imprests by the Royal Solomon Islands Police (RSIP) were not retired on due dates and this has resulted in none releasing of imprests for operations.
This was in response to a question asked by the Chairman of PAC Rick Hou who was informed earlier by a delegation from the Ministry of Police and National Security (MPNS) over the matter.
Speaking during the PAC meeting at the National Parliament conference room the AG said that this is a straight forward case because these people failed to retire their imprest on deadlines, despite continuous warnings to them.
“None acquittal of this payments is out of our hesitant to allow this issue of replenishing these standing imprests, but given the urgency and seriousness of a particular case we have to go ahead and give special imprests to cover operations,” the AG stated.
He said that this is not a new thing as they continue to repeat this, which they have to take actions so that these people try to be transparent and accountable on what is given to them because at the end of the day everything would have to be accounted for.
