Local rural farmers’ who took part in the field day held at Dala South Community, West Kwara’ae, Malaita province on Wednesday has commended the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) for the initiative.
The field day was an opportunity for farmers in the central region of the province to come together at the venue to display their crops and livestock to the public.
The farmers said the initiative taken by MAL to reach to the communities or rural farmers is very significant for the local farmers.
They said that from the awareness talks to information received from officers, the program hassurely boosted their knowledge to improve their farming.
“This is the first of its kind to reach us and we thank the ministry of agriculture for that.
“This is how we should work together and help each other because some of the local farmers still need to know some technical information to improve their farming methods.
“But we believe through such program like this farmers will have knowledge and skills to improve yield and production in terms of crops and livestock,” they said.
Meanwhile, the agriculture office in Auki assured the community and rural farmers that they will continue to reach out to the rural communities or farmers.
This is one of the incentives to encourage local farmers to participate in the economy of this country and livelihood, the office said.
The farmers’ field day was staged based on the theme: ‘Think Lokol Kakai for Helti Living.’
