AUKI Police will commence its ‘Safe Boat Operation’ on Thursday.
Speaking to Solomon Star, Malaita Province acting provincial police commander Timothy Apaisi said as of December 1st police will start inspecting ships arriving in Auki from Honiara.
He said Auki Police will be patrolling Auki Wharf for intoxicated passengers travelling onboard the ships.
Last week Auki Police issued a statement warning travelling passengers to avoid consuming alcohol when travelling on passenger vessels travelling to Auki.
Police said those caught will be arrested upon their arrival at Auki Wharf.
Mr Apaisi said this is to maintain public safety and ensure men, women and children travelling on passenger vessels are not disturbed by drunks.
