The Marist FC Brazilian Coach, Juliano Schmeling is happy with his team’s performance despite their narrow 2-1 defeat to the Vanuatu champions, Erakor FC on Wednesday.
Schmeling told OFC media it was an open match which could have ended in favour of either side.
He commended both sides for their perseverance and performances.
“I’m happy with the performance of the players, the way they’re improving and growing up “I think the game was very open, although we held more possession in the first half it was quite equal.
“I think all Solomon and Vanuatu countries should be proud because we had a nice game tonight.
“Both teams tried to get more possession, not just attacking.
“Normally when you see them playing its just attack, attack, attack but tonight it was a different game, I think the two communities should be proud of this game,” he told OFC media.
Marist made a positive start to their campaign defeating Rewa FC 4-2 in their opener.
However they face an uphill climb following their defeat to Erakor on Wednesday.
The final group match will be the toughest since they will take on the hosts and Tahiti’s top club, Tefana FC.
They must win this match with a goal difference of three to four clear goals.
Group D will host its final group matches tomorrow, Saturday March 18 at Stade Pater, Tahiti.
Rewa will play Erakor Golden Star at 3pm and Tefana will take on Marist at 6pm (Solomon Time).
