Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade has dubbed the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) as a ‘symbol of hope.’
Peter Shanel Agovaka said this on Tuesday when he signed the Exchange Notes for the scholarship program with the Japanese Ambassador to Solomon Islands in Honiara.
This particular project will see Tokyo collaborate with Honiara in the field of human resource capacity-building, providing Solomon Islands Government officers with the opportunity to undertake two-year masters’ programs at prestigious universities in Japan.
“The beneficiaries of this program will not only gain from the academic and professional excellence of Japanese institutions but will also bring back the spirit of innovation, research and discipline that Japan is renowned for.
“This experience will undoubtedly foster new ideas, enhance our public service and private sector, and contribute to the overall growth and development of our country,” Minister Agovaka said.
Japanese Government will provide specialized training to local Solomon Islanders under this scholarship partnership program in Public Policy, Public Financial Management, International Relations and Climate Change Countermeasures Environmental policy.
This grant for the Human Resource Development Scholarships Project of one hundred and forty –nine Million Japanese’s Yen is a testament to Japan’s commitment to support Solomon Islands efforts in building a strong, educated, and resilient workforce. It reflects the shared values of cooperation for a better future, mutual respect, and a vision for a future where both our nations thrive together, Minister Agovaka added.
