Dear Editor – I write to contribute my analysis on the response the Hon MP for West Makira constituency Derick Manu’ari clarification attempt to Mr. Charlie Kieu’s article in this paper issue. No 1122.
First I appreciate Hon. Manu’ari’s attempt to make clarification because he is the center of the mess so to speak.
Reading between the lines he seems to divert the real issue and failed miserably to answer the intended purpose of Mr. Kieu’s article.
On the outset, I assumed that Mr. Kieu is only seek, need correct, right, fair, just and sensible answers from Hon. Manu’ari’s as the political head of the West Makira Constituency.
I would like to confirm my analysis in this paper that the Hon. Opposition MP is trying to divert the real issue because of his wrong doing by making clarifications that holds no water and floats astray from the key areas he needs to explain with honesty.
He continued to blame the system yet he is abusing the system and submitted 10 students to secure SIG sponsorship a privilege he is the only boss above anyone else.
I could not agree anymore that the additional students that have made the cut beyond the original 4 students per constituency are laughable and a real mockery to his administration. The general concern of the struggling students and parents of the WMC is the abuse of SIG sponsored space by non-West Makira Constituency students.
The fine example is the inclusion of the last the students in the West Makira constituency list published in Island Sun last three weeks.
The two student namely Jovick Hunuehu is from East Are ‘Are constituency and should be endorsed by Hon. Andrew Manepora.
The other student namely Lenora Kyiere is from Sukiki East Guadalcanal Constituency under Hon. Bradley Tovosia.
The inclusion of the two students under West Makira Constituency is a real concern for us since we blew up the maximum amount given under the law.
To make matter worse the two students will in no way be of benefit for the WMC because cultural and originally they will support their own places once they graduate let alone their national contributions in future.
I quote the point he raised, the case of scholarship is a challenge for Human Resource Investment and development priorities of the constituency.
His is action is contradicting the point of supporting the WMC people first then later friends, former working colleques and taboos.
The West Makira Constituency Profile and eventual development of the development should unselfishly give a good base of what areas we are lacking in terms of human resource base.
I don’t really understand the intention and the purpose of trying to lift other constituency Human Resources while our constituency still needs more and should benefit most.
I feel sorry for the WMC sponsored students who are studying in country academic institutions.
They are only provided with tuition fees and left in cool to find other essential means of food, accommodation, transportation in town.
The amount of entitlement the students will milk out from the SIG but is too huge if we are to compare. My investigation in to the scholarship package enjoyed by the duo ranges from airfare, living allowance, accommodation and book allowances.
Currently in University of the South Pacific, Laucala campus, Fiji, the living allowance is approximately $24,000 SBD per semester. For three years this amount rise to $150,000 and in Emalus campus, Vanuatu the Law program is 4 years and Living allowance is around $200,000(SBD) for full program.
Oh my goodness sake, I only wish this luxurious study entitlement are given to real Makira students so on their return from studies they can invest their knowledge back in rural communities and contribute positively in all key aspects of development.
I do agree we have a sizeable population now so my suggestion is don’t be careless with the submission of the SIG sponsorship list to NTU in coming years.
Finally I before I pen off I want to know why include non-West Makiran’s in human resource development lists under 2016 SIG sponsored students? Why does the MP have stretch too far to rescue non constituents?
Today I am deep trouble to try to comprehend the direction our MP is pursuing. He seems do advocate much in the media on national and international issues and even pronounce the enforcement to tackle corruption, to develop a transparent and free society.
All this seems to appear different in his recent undertaking of scholarship. Already he abuse the WMC student space and abuse the number of scholarship, that to me is the buck of corruption and demonstration of the who package that still yet to be covered. Only the devil knows.
I just want the MP to be a good leader and play fairly and vigorously pursue all means to the benefit our constituency.
Lastly, it is advisable our Hon. join the DCCG so that we can move on with our development aspiration for the good of our constituency. Long live West Makira with good decision from our leaders.
