RESULTS of the standard six exams last year have finally been published in this paper today.
Forms three and five results will come out in the next issues.
These results show where students who sat for last year’s exams will be going this year.
Over the past days, students and parents alike have been anxious to know the results.
This is something they’ve been looking forward to since the beginning of the month.
They’ll be pleased the results have finally been released.
But this is still too late.
These important school results should have been released much earlier.
This is important to give parents and students enough time to prepare.
The 2014 academic year starts next Monday.
So how do we expect parents to prepare their children within the next two days to travel to a school on another island where their children will attend this year?
Parents need weeks to prepare their children for each new school year. They’ll have to buy new uniforms, stationeries, and of course prepare school fees.
Releasing the results at least two weeks ahead of the academic years would help them prepare their children for the school year.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time national examination results have been released on the eve of the academic year.
It happened last year, and the previous ones, too. This is unacceptable.
The Ministry of Education and Human Resource needs to seriously look into this issue.
Over the years, we’ve witnessed the late release of school results disrupting the start of the academic year.
This is going to happen again this year.
Can the ministry ensure this does not happen again next year?
