AS the hosting of the 2023 Pacific Games is within the next seven years, calls for the country to gear up its preparation is intensifying.
The latest was the revival of the annual sports carnival for schools throughout the country.
Honiara resident Ben Didiomea said there is a need to revive the games to prepare a well-represented Solomon Islands Pacific Games team.
“Over the past years, we have seen the successes of the school sports carnival.
“This has resulted in the selection of some of the best athletes in the country.
“It is through the carnival that the best out of the best can be selected and groomed to represent the country in any international sports competition,” Didiomea said.
He added, if the Pacific Games committee has included the idea in their plans already, then that would be satisfactory of him.
Mr Didiomea also commends the development of the Solomon Games well ahead of the Pacific Games.
“As far as I know, the next Solomon Games will be in 2018, then 2020, and then 2022.
“This is a perfect path that will lead to the country’s succesfull preparation towards the Pacific Games,” Mr Didiomea told Star Sports in an interview, Thursday.
