TODAY is the important day for all Primary and Secondary school students nationwide as they commence their 2024 academic year as regulated by the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD).
Many students had waited early for this day as Primary and Secondary schools across the nation went on an early break in 2024 as some schools in and around Honiara were used as games villages for the 17th Pacific Games hosted in Honiara last year.
The date for the commencement of 2024 Academic Year was set by the MEHRD Permanent Secretary Dr Franco Rodie as mandated by the Education Act 2023 and schools have been warned to commence classes exactly on this date.
According to the Act specified under Section 60 (1) (a) stated that the PS must determine the terms, days and hours for the provision of education at schools, including Early Childhood Centres.
Last week, Solomon Star visited Honiara Senior High School and witnessed the registration of students for this academic year.
MEHRD has also set the 2024 Academic Year registration to be held from Monday 8 January to Friday 12 January.
