There was great excitement recently when Bible translators were advised that Scripture comics that they had helped to prepare some time ago had been printed and delivered to Honiara.
The original project was to translate a comic talking about the Bible stories of Abraham into Arosi, Bilua, Bughotu, Cheke Holo, Gela, Gao, Kwaio, Lengo, Pijin, Roviana, Sa’a, Simbo, Ulawa and Zabana languages.
The project was supported by Bible Translation and Literacy Partnership, Solomon Island Translation Advisory Group and the Bible Society of the South Pacific.
Local BTLP translators and SITAG advisors worked hard on the translation over many weeks.
Dr Alpheaus Zobule and Dr Carl Gross, Bible Society Consultants at the time, were key people who checked the drafted material and the Bible Society paid for the printing.
Now that the comics have arrived, printed in full colour, it is hoped that they will be a blessing and encouragement to all those language groups, and add to the short list of material that is available in local languages of the Solomons.
