Dear Editor –It is indeed a sad news for us the general public if the above caption comes to full implementation next week.
As stated in the Solomon Star newspaper issue 6168 on Monday this week that sea travelers boarding local ships in Honiara to their provinces may likely to dig deeper into their pockets to pay for their sea fares as of next month.
This came after the local ship owners and operating association (SIMTA) has resolved in their last meeting held on Wednesday 20th April to increase sea fares.
With great concern, I believed many of us unemployed people which is the majority of this country will be affected.
I want to call upon those responsible authorities to look serious into this issue as I have said that the majority in this country are unemployed.
I am one of the many people who usually received $300 fortnight and for sure this is not enough to pay for my sea fare if I want to travel back to my home village.
Where are our representatives that we elected in 2014?
Can you do something for us now? I am sure that we will be affected if this increase comes to full implementation next month.
The sea fare increases will be effective as of Sunday 1st of May 2016 and will be in the range of 50 percent to 100 percent with some as high as 150percent.
Freights of goods will also increase for different sectors of the country and these freight increases will come into effect in a few weeks after 1st May.
