A SEARCH for five people missing at sea between Ulawa Island and Small Malaita is continuing since it was mounted last Friday.
Coastal villagers throughout the country have been alerted to look out for a fibre glass outboard motor powered canoe with five people on board.
The canoe was believed to have left Ulawa Island in Makira Ulawa province destined for Small Malaita but failed to arrive on time.
Police officer in charge of the search operation at the provincial capital Kira Kira, Peter Sitai has appealed to all coastal settlers in the country to keep a lookout for any signs of the missing canoe.
Mr Sitai said the alarm to mount a search for the five travellers was relayed to Kira Kira police late Friday.
He said a search and rescue mounted by the Maritime Safety Administration have not establish sighting yet of the missing canoe.
Mr Sitai said the Under Secretary of the Ministry of Police and National Security, Steven Maesiola, is one of the five on board the missing boat.
Mr Sitai urges coastal villagers to contact the nearest police station if they make any sighting of the missing canoe and its five travellers.
