A SECOND accused in a firearm possession case was released on a cash bail of $1000 on Tuesday in the Honiara Magistrate’s Court.
Twenty-three-year-old Peter Carlos Kwaitaka was released under strict bail conditions.
He and his co-accused Iro Kwaita are facing one count each of possession of firearm or ammunition without licence.
Both have pleaded not guilty.
A pre-trial conference will be conducted on their matter on February 1st 2022.
Kwaitaka was arrested at Ranadi on 1st December 2021 following allegations that on 30th November 2021 he had in his possession a rifle and ammunitions without a current firearm licence.
The firearm was said to be owned by Kwaita but at that time they were in Kwaitaka’s possession. Kwaitaka claimed that he was cleaning and oiling the firearm.
The rifle and ammunitions have been sent to Australia for expert examination and the Crown is still waiting for the results.
Private Lawyer Hubert Fugui represents Kwaita while Kwaitaka is being represented by the Public Solicitor’s Office.
