THE Opposition Group has claimed a top government Minister has secretly met with an Asian Miner at a hotel carpark under the cover of darkness.
The Group revealed this after it took possession of a video footage of the alleged secret night meeting.
The Opposition in a statement on Monday it has been obtained the copy of the footage capturing the meeting between the Minister and this controversial Asian miner at a top hotel carpark in Honiara.
“The meeting which took place on April 21st 2017 around 10:40pm at night raises a lot of questions as to why the minister met the miner privately that night as it also undermined the minister’s status,” the statement said.
According to a video footage obtained by the Opposition Office, the minister’s vehicle, a Hyundai SUV, arrived at the carpark at around 10:40pm.
Few minutes later, an Asian man believed to be the Chairman of this mining firm was seen walking down the stairs and into the minister’s vehicle, it was claimed.
From the footage the Opposition Office can confirm that the secret carpark meeting lasted for around 10 minutes before the chairman was seen exiting from the car and went back to his hotel room.
“We strongly denounce this meeting and call on the minister to explain why he met the miner that night at the car park. This meeting is highly suspicious especially when it is also done on a Friday night after official hours,” the statement added.
The Opposition Office stated that the secret meeting raised more suspicion especially after similar dealing with another Asian Miner happened two months ago.
“The chronology of events has indicated ‘highly’ suspicious dealings between mining companies, the minister and other senior ministers in the Government.
“The people of this nation deserve a full explanation or the Minister must resign,” the Opposition statement said.
The Opposition also confirmed with the hotel management the Miner and his colleagues were guests of the hotel at the time and date the meeting was claimed to have occurred.
Attempts to get comments from the Minister was unsuccessful.
