THE court has ordered a security officer who stole a mobile phone from Solomon Telekom office at Point Cruz last November to pay $1,000 fine.
Principal Magistrate Augustine Aulanga told Alfred Ronny to pay the fine to Telekom within 14 days.
After considering the sentence, Mr Aulanga said he will sentence Ronny under section 27 of the Penal Code (PC) which is not normally executed in court.
He said this section empowers the accused pay the fine to the victim instead of paying it to the court.
“After you pay the fine, you must produce a letter that is signed by you and Telekom to confirm that you paid the money,” Mr Aulanga told Ronny.
The court sentenced Ronny following his guilty plea to the charge of larceny & embezzlement.
Ronny stole the mobile phone from the Telekom exchange office at Point Cruz while working as a security officer for Telekom.
This was during the accused’s night shift.
The mobile phone was also recovered and returned to Telekom.
