THE Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is mounting a security operation during the state visit of the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea.
Prime Minister James Marape arrived with his delegation in Honiara on Thursday afternoon and will be in the country until Saturday.
During the security operation, RSIPF officers from the various departments and units will provide, static and security presence, high visibility presence, traffic management and road policing, security coverage in and around the necessary areas and a guard of honour at the Honiara International Airport at Henderson.
“I call on members of the public especially in and around Honiara to show our courtesies during the visit of the PNG Prime Minister and his delegation to our country.
“I understand the traffic in the city will be affected as the visiting delegation will move around our capital city. I appeal for patience from our drivers and pedestrians using our roads during the visit,” says Acting Commissioner, Mostyn Mangau.
He adds: “Officers involved in the security operation will be visible at the venues where the PNG Prime Minister and his delegation will be accommodated and meeting. I ask for everyone’s cooperation at these various venues.”
“I know the citizens of our capital city will behave themselves as usual during such visits as we showcase our Hapi Isles to our neighbour PNG and the rest of the world as the media covers this important visit.”
Acting Commissioner Mangau emphasises: “I appeal to the public to report to your nearest police station or call 999 should you have any information about anyone planning any unlawful activities during the visit of the PNG Prime Minister and his delegation.”
