An investigation against a police Sergeant could affect his chance of leading Samoa’s police contingent as part of RAMSI’s peacekeeping mission in the Solomon Islands.
Sergeant Lualua Manila is scheduled to lead Samoa’s police contingent to the Solomon Islands later this year.
However, this may not happen if the alleged sexual harassment complaint against him is proven.
The Sergeant is currently being investigated by the Police Professional Standards Unit (PPSU).
Also under investigation is allegation against a police woman who is also scheduled to be part of the same mission with Sergeant Lualua.
The police woman was involved in a car accident a few months back.
She has not been charged but was transferred from the police Domestic Division in Apia to serve at the Faleata Police post.
Several police officers are complaining about the transfer without a proper investigation, especially when the accident started from a party that was held at the Domestic Division office at the Apia Police headquarters.
Talamua understands that it was the Acting Police Commissioner Fauono Tala Tapu who intervened and put a stop to the party.
Later that night, the police woman had an accident and a few days later, transferred without investigation.
Acting Police Commissioner confirmed the investigations.
Asked why the officers were not suspended like other officers under investigation, Fauono said “it’s being investigated”.
The mission for Solomon Islands will depart Samoa after the Small Islands Development States (SIDS) conference in September 2014.
