Gov’t condemns ‘shameful’ viral clip of Solomon Islands PALM Workers, reminds workers to be good ambassadors at all times
A VIDEO clip of certain Solomon Islands seasonal workers in Australia that has gone viral has prompted condemnation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & External Trade (MFAET).
In a statement issued yesterday, MFAET said it condemns the ‘unbecoming behaviors of certain PALM (Pacific Australia Labor Mobility) workers featured’ featured in the clip viewed by many Solomon Islanders on Sunday night.
“The social media clip shows four Solomon Islands workers under the PALM scheme drinking alcohol. They appeared to be heavily intoxicated and used foul language directed at viewers, including the national government,” the statement said.
“MFAET condemns such behaviour by the individuals led by Nelson Rembi Lipujama. This is shameful and disappointing for the country’s image and families of the individuals and does not uphold the values of Solomon Islands.
“Such actions tarnish the positive reputation of the Solomon Islands ‘Here to Work’ brand in Australia and will be investigated,” the statement added.
The MFAET statement said Solomon Islands Government (SIG) reminds Solomon Islands workers under PALM or the New Zealand RSE (Recognized Seasonal Employer) that such actions will not be tolerated.
It said SIG reiterates the importance of workers maintaining good behavior at all times as ambassadors of Solomon Islands.
