New Zealand football international Shane Smeltz has signed a one year deal with Sydney FC after quitting Perth Glory yesterday.
Smeltz scored 28 goals in 58 appearances for Perth, but his 2013/14 campaign was blighted by a series of injuries.
The prolific striker says he expects to win trophies with his new club.
“I’m very happy to be signing for Sydney FC,” said Smeltz. “This is the biggest and most renown club in Australia and it will be an honour to pull on the Sky Blue shirt.
“I’m excited to get to work with Graham Arnold and to start training with the squad. I’m coming here with an expectation that we can win trophies and qualify for the Asian Champions League.
Glory coach Kenny Lowe is set to head to England next week on a recruiting campaign.
Lowe has already signed Wanderers striker Youssouf Hersi and former Socceroos defender Dino Djulbic since being appointed coach on a two-year deal last month.
Marquee defender William Gallas is still a chance to remain at the club next season.
