MINISTER for Communication and Aviation Peter Shanel says he wants those implicated in the audit report of the Civil Aviation Special Fund to be charged and prosecuted.
Speaking to the Solomon Star in an exclusive interview, Mr Shanel stressed that those involved in awarding Civil Aviation contracts to their relatives and friends must be brought to account for their actions.
“No one is above the law including the Members of Parliament (MPs), so those implicated in the audit report for wrong doings must face justice” he pointed out.
Mr Shanel confirmed that the matter is now with Janus, a joint taskforce between the police and the Ministry of Finance tasked with the job of investigating and prosecuting corruption within government.
He also confirmed that some officers, including the acting Civil Aviation director George Satu, were terminated or suspended pending further investigations.
“I want this matter to be investigated to the end and not to allow anybody escape from their corrupt dealings, so Janus must arrest and brought those people to face justice,” Mr Shanel reiterated.
The minister said he will not tolerate corruption in his ministry or other government bodies that exercise their mandated duties under his watch.
Mr Shanel’s comments followed revelation by the Special Audit Report for the Civil Aviation Special Fund 2013-2014, which was brought to parliament last month.
Office of the Auditor General produced the report.
The audit uncovered fraud, corruption, and mismanagement of the special fund.
