Central Island province is calling shipping operators in Solomon Island to providing shipping services around the province.
Central Island province acting provincial secretary Hendy Limbo highlighted this in an interview with the Solomon Star yesterday.
Mr Limbo said provincial government noticed people travelling with produce and luggage by our board motor (OBM) from Gela to Honiara which is unsafe and risk therefore the province requested any shipping companies to provide shipping service.
“Since 360 Discovery and Nonano stop its service to the province, our province find it hard to safely transport market produce to Honiara.
“Weather in the province is vulnerable to our people’s lives therefore we urged shipping companies to provide shipping service in our province,” the acting PS said.
He added currently some shipping companies are providing shipping service but are unreliable.
“We need shipping companies that could provide reliable service to our province.
“We do not need shipping companies that provide shipping service for a short term. We need long term operators that could serve our province for a longer term”
“Therefore the provincial government is urging any shipping companies in the country to consult us to start their shipping service to the province,” he said.
Meanwhile Mr Limbo thanked serving companies that are currently providing shipping service to the province.
