SHIPPING service to Malaita Province this week was cancelled due to impacts of cyclones Judy and Kevin on the country.
Ships servicing the Honiara-Auki route halted their service for safety reasons as strong winds and rough seas associated with Judy and the low depression in the Coral Sea battered the country rendering it unsafe for ships to travel. The low depression in the Coral Sea has developed into another cyclone, Cyclone Kevin which was reported to have slowly moved from Renbel Province.
In the light of the cyclone, one of the shipping companies providing regular passenger and cargo services between Honiara and Auki, Franjti Shipping Ltd, issued a no-travel notice to its customers on Wednesday.
The notice reads, “Due to weather condition AUKI EXPRESS’s trip for today (yesterday) is CANCELLED and rescheduled for tomorrow.
“Sorry for this inconvenience but we take safety as our No 1 priority.
“Passengers seeking reconfirmation for future travel can contact us on 23200.”
Yesterday, people who wanted to travel from Auki to Honiara, were forced to reschedule their travel plans for safety reasons.
