PARENTS are urged not to feed their children with junk foods from shops.
Under Secretary (Administration) to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Oswald Ramo made the call, Thursday.
This was during a brief handing over ceremony of planting materials and farming equipment/tools to Honiara based schools.
The project was to ensure food security and healthy local foods were planted for school children.
Mr Ramo said:
“Parents must act responsibly and avoid all forms of junk food in shops,” he said.
“Non-communicable diseases have been on the rise for decades and junk food consumption is one of the main contributing factors.”
The Ministry of Agriculture has now for the first time given out a project under which recipient schools will plant local foods/ vegetable and fruit trees for their students.
