The Solomon Islands Australia Alumni Association (SIAAA) successfully held their annual gala on 19 October 2024, celebrating the strong partnership between Solomon Islands and Australia through tertiary study links.
The gala was honoured with the presence of the Minister for Education and Human Resources Development Tozen Leokana, Catherine Launa Nori Member of Parliament (MP) for Isabel (Maringe/Kokota), Acting Australian High Commissioner, Mr Andrew Schloeffel, and Solomon Islands Government dignitaries.
More than 550 Solomon Islanders have studied in Australia or under the prestigious Australia Awards Scholarships.
The SIAAA helps keep Australian alumni connected with peers and Australia both socially and professionally, to support contributions to Solomon Islands development.
Acting High Commissioner Schloeffel said Alumni are the heart of Solomon Islands-Australia people-to-people links.
”We’re proud to partner with the Solomon Islands Australia Alumni Association (SIAAA), which plays such a vital role in connecting alumni, lifting up new leaders, and giving back to community and nation”, acting High Commissioner Schloeffel said.
President Teutao said education is fundamental to sustainable development.
“It, empowers individuals and communities with the skills to thrive. Through SIAAA, we can advocate for improved educational opportunities for Solomon Islanders in Australia and foster collaboration between our institutions,” President Teutao said.
Australia is proud to support the education and human resources development of Solomon Islands through the SIAAA professional network, including its Australia Awards and Fellowships.
