SOLOMON Islands has entered into diplomatic relations with the Republic of Colombia.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Peter Shanel Agovaka and his Colombian counterpart Luis Urrutia signed a joint Communique formalizing the establishment of diplomatic relations in New York at the margins of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session.
Both Ministers acknowledged that the formalization of diplomatic relations will open opportunities for south-south cooperation between Solomon Islands and Colombia.
This includes, exploring cooperation in areas such agricultural innovation, climate change and disaster risk management, tourism and people to people interaction through sports, in particular football.
The Republic of Colombia is located in South America with insular regions in North America.
