Solomon Islands High Commissioner to Fiji, Patteson Oti said the piece of land promised to be given to Solomon Islands for the High Commission Office in Fiji has been given.
Mr Oti said preparatory work has started.
The High Commission office in Suva is expected be built at the Laucala seafront next to the Muanikau Community Police Post.
Oti said the proposed areas were given to Melanesian Spearhead Group countries, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
“It’s for the purpose of building our high commission offices.”
He said initial discussion between these three countries has been ongoing on how the land can well utilized for their intended purpose.
“Consultations have been fruitful but we are yet to come up with one plan whether to have separate offices under one roof and the share use of common facilities.
“Or to have separate buildings with facilities built differently,” he said.
“Oti said the availing of land to these three MSG countries is acknowledged and Solomon Islands in particular is honored for the generosity shown by the Fiji Government.
“This shows the true Melanesian link, close cooperation, respect and relationship through the common history Melanesians share.
“Thus it is only common for Solomon Islands to interchange in the near future, that is yet to be decided on but sure be looked into in the near future,” he said.
