The Solomon Islands High Commissioner to the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Joseph Ma’ahanua on Tuesday 21st December paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Fiji, Honorable Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama.
High Commissioner Maáhanua conveyed warm greetings from the Government and people of Solomon Islands to the Government and people of Fiji, and expressed deep honor to be representing his government in Fiji, and to act as a conduit for the maintenance and deepening of the two countries friendly relations, a statement issued by Government Communication Unit said.
High Commissioner also took the opportunity to thank Prime Minister Bainimarama for Fiji’s contributions to the peacekeeping mission in Honiara following three days of unrest from 24th -26th November 2021, and assures that their presence on the ground has contributed to the restoring of calm and peace in Honiara.
Their discussions also focused on areas of mutual interest aimed at deepening cooperation such as aviation, agriculture, education, maritime boundary, sports, health and security; including the people to people connections enjoyed by the two countries.
High Commissioner highlighted the importance of Fiji as a neighbor in the Pacific and in that spirit reaffirmed the Solomon Islands Government’s commitment to build a Chancery in Suva.
“Solomon Islands and Fiji are not only members of the United Nations but closer to home are part of the Pacific family in the Pacific Islands Forum and CROP agencies and more so the Melanesian Spearhead Group. Fiji and Solomon Islands share a common heritage and history that goes a long way’, High Commissioner affirmed.
High Commissioner reaffirmed his strong commitment to working with Fiji and looks forward to further deepening and strengthen relations between the two countries during his tenure in Suva.
