SOLOMON Islands High Commissioner to United Kingdom H.E Eliam Tangirongo has paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, Tuesday.
In a brief meeting with the Prime Minister, H.E Tangirongo briefed the Prime Minister on the current work plans of his office in London.
Mr Tangirongo also informed the Prime Minister of the funding arrangements available through the Commonwealth Secretariat.
He also informed Prime Minister Sogavare that Solomon Islands is missing out on a lot of opportunities from the Commonwealth Secretariat and that we need to tap those interesting prospects.
“There are a lot of opportunities for finances and technical advices that we need to tap into. It is time relevant ministries start to think seriously into these exciting openings,” he said.
The high commissioner also briefed the Prime Minister on the preparations towards the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Kigali, Rwanda in June this year.
Prime Minister Sogavare in response has thanked Mr Tangirongo for seeing it important to brief him.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged that Solomon Islands have missed out on a lot of opportunities abroad because there are a lot of MOU’s that are not being followed up on by relevant ministries.
“The world is waiting yet we are not making use of the opportunities before us,” he said.
Prime Minister Sogavare also encouraged Mr Tangirongo to continue to fly the country’s flag high in the UK.
