NATIONAL Archives of Solomon Islands has celebrated the world archives day with an archives open day on Tuesday.
The celebration was held that the National Archives compound in Honiara which saw the National Archives open its doors for the public.
The daylong event started in the morning with speeches and ended in the afternoon with entertainments.
The theme of the open day is “Archives; Protecting, Preserving and sharing our documentary Heritage”
Archives is a very important government institution which is responsible for looking after government records in the country.
Archives play an important role in development of societies by upholding and contributing to individual and community memory.
It is an irreplaceable heritage containing documents and records of the past that passes from one generation to another with great respect.
