SOLOMON Islands officially commissioned its firstever Embassy located at Abu Dhabi in United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday.
Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele, his Foreign Affairs Minister Peter Shanel Agovaka and a high level government delegation witnessed the historic occasion.
Minister Agovaka joined the delegation after attending the United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York.
A statement from the Prime Ministers Office on Monday said, “today marks the official opening of Solomon Islands new Embassy in the United Arab Emirates.”
The statement added that from a modest beginning, Monday’s inauguration evolves as a proud symbol of the Solomon Islands-UAE enduring partnership.
“It underscores the two nations commitment to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance their cooperation in various sectors marking an important milestone in the flourishing relations between the two nations.
“Being the hub of trade and commerce in the Gulf region with a robust economy that has grown exponentially over a reasonably short period, UAE offers a model of development Solomon Islands can learn from,” the statement said.
PM’s delegation arrived on at Abu Dhabi on Sunday morning before engaging in the operating ceremony on Monday morning, UAE time.
The opening of the embassy symbolizes the confidence and trust the country had in the bilateral relationship with UAE, more so it presents an opportunity for Solomon Islands to pursue areas of cooperation with UAE, it was highlighted.
From Abu Dhabi, the Prime Minster will travel to Saudi Arabia for his state visit.
Prime Minister is expected back in the country on 7th of October 2024.
The country’s new embassy in UAE is manned by Cornelius Walegarea, a former deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade.
His Excellency Walegerea took his oath at the Government House in March this year.
In April he presented a copy of his letter of Credentials to the UAE government.
