SOLOMON Islands Team Taekwondo for the Sol2023 Pacific Games has expressed its readiness to compete in the major regional sporting event in Honiara.
This was stated by the Taekwondo Head Coach Junior Maetia.
Taekwondo athletes usually train at the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS) as part of their preparation for the games.
“The team is positive and we are ready for the competition during the Sol2023 Pacific Games,” Maetia said.
He added that the athletes are prepared for the games.
Maetia thanked SINIS for the training programmes it offered to Taekwondo athletes as part of their preparation for the Pacific Games.
He also acknowledged the support of Taekwondo Coach and Mentor Bianca Scurry during their training.
Scurry is an Australian volunteer who is working as a Taekwondo Coach Mentor at SINIS through the Australia Volunteers Programme at the High-Performance sports institution.
Maetia also thanked the National Government for sending a Chinese mentor who also supported Taekwondo athletes in their preparation for the Pacific Games.
With all the preparations and training sessions, the Taekwondo team is ready to compete and also win medals for Solomon Islands, he added.
Meanwhile, Scurry has told the Australian High Commission in Honiara that, “Taekwondo has always been a deep passion of mine and I see it as a universal family. The power of sport fosters community spirit and acts as a means to improving my physical health, growth, confidence and a sense of purpose, regardless of socio-economic conditions.”
