THE election for the Solomon Islands Athletes Commission (SIAC) new executive has been cancelled and postponed for a later date.
This was confirmed by the current SIAC chairman, Francis Manioru in a statement yesterday.
The cancellation and postponement is due to the current Covid-19 situation the country is facing at the moment.
“Due to the current covid-19 lock down in Honiara, the proposed electoral date on the 23rd is now cancelled.
“The SIAC EB will announce the new date when the situation is back to normal,” he said.
Meanwhile Manioru thanked all National Federations for their efforts in handing in their nominations.
“On behalf of the SIAC Board I would like to thank you all for the efforts done at this challenging time in submitting your nomination forms before closer to the deadline.
“I would also like take this opportunity on behalf of the Solomon Islands Athletes Commission (SIAC) Executive Board to thank all of you for your support towards the work of the SIAC under my leadership for the past eight years.
“Thank you all for your cooperation and understanding,” he added.
Manioru urged every athlete and their federations to follow all Covid-19 protocols, stay safe, stay home and be protected during this challenging time.
