The Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) extends its gratitude to the Solomon Islands Government, particularly Prime Minister (PM) Jeremiah Manele MP, for the ongoing collaboration with the private sector.
The SICCI Board, led by Chairlady Namoi Kaluae, had the honor of paying a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele MP.
During the meeting, Chairlady Kaluae expressed the Chamber’s appreciation to Prime Minister Manele and the National Government for consistently making time to engage with the SICCI leadership on behalf of its members.
At the outset, SICCI welcomed the Government’s announcement to allocate between 50-Million to 100-Million annually to fund critical national development projects.
Chairlady Kaluae expressed, this initiative is a pivotal step in advancing priority national projects and will have a positive impact on economic growth, public-private partnerships, and job creation.
The Chamber continues to advocate for closer partnerships with the Government and development partners to foster business growth and economic progress.
Chairlady Kaluae further expressed appreciation for the Government’s policies, (some still work in progress), that promote growth and create a conducive environment for businesses to innovate, thrive, and compete, she stated.
It is vital, she noted, that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and locally owned businesses are actively involved in national development to ensure that the benefits of growth remain within the local economy.
In his response, Prime Minister Manele reinforced the importance of the private sector as a critical partner in national development, stressing that economic growth cannot be achieved without collaboration with this sector.
He also highlighted that the Government is actively working on policies and legislative reforms, including the Mineral and Resources Bill, Building Codes Bill, Public Service Bill among others, aimed at enhancing productivity, improving governance, and strengthening the private sector and public services.
Further, a directive has been issued over the weekend to address the deteriorating road condition in Honiara, PM Manele added.
Prime Minister Manele also accepted SICCI’s invitation to be the Chief Guest at the upcoming ‘Prime Minister’s Business Breakfast,’ scheduled for the second week of March.
The Business Breakfast is a key opportunity for direct engagement between the Prime Minister and the SICCI leadership, allowing for meaningful dialogue on issues affecting the private sector.
The Prime Minister said, the Government commits to its partnership with the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and looks forward to continued collaboration for the advancement of locally owned businesses and the national economy.
