THE Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) has welcomed the government’s announcement of an annual allocation of between $50 million to $100 million to fund critical national development projects.
SICCI Chairlady Namoi Kaluae expressed this when in a meeting with Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele recently.
She said this initiative is a pivotal step in advancing priority national projects and will have a positive impact on economic growth, public-private partnerships and job creation.
“The Chamber continues to advocate for closer partnerships with the government and development partners to foster business growth and economic progress,” she said.
Chairlady Kaluae further expressed appreciation for the government’s policies, some of which are still worked on, promoting growth and creating a conducive environment for businesses to innovate, thrive and compete.
She said it is vital that Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and locally-owned businesses are actively involved in national development to ensure that the benefits of growth remain within the local economy.
In response, PM Manele reinforced the importance of the private sector as a critical partner in national development, stressing that economic growth cannot be achieved without collaboration with this sector.
He also highlighted that the government is actively working on policies and legislative reforms, some of which are the Mineral and Resources Bill, Building Codes Bill, Public Service, to enhance productivity, improve governance and strengthen the private sector and public services.
PM Manele said a directive was issued last weekend to address the deteriorating road condition in Honiara.
Furthermore, he expressed his acceptance of SICCI’s invitation to be the Chief Guest at the upcoming ‘Prime Minister’s Business Breakfast,’ scheduled for the second week of March.
The Business Breakfast is a key opportunity for direct engagement between the PM and the SICCI leadership, allowing for meaningful dialogue on issues affecting the private sector.
PM Manele said the government commits to its partnership with SICCI and looks forward to continued collaboration for the advancement of locally owned businesses and the national economy.
