Solomon Islands Development Trust (SIDT) is preparing to engage in a nation-wide pre-election awareness and voter education throughout the country next week.
The awareness program is a project initiated by SIDT and funded by European Union with the help of Development Service Exchange (DSE) and Royal Solomon Islands police force (RSIPF).
The project aims to empower voters to make informed choices and exercise democratic right to vote within a safe and unbiased electoral environment.
Director of SIDT director Longden Manedika said the awareness program will enable men, women and youth to actively and freely participate in the electoral process through the use of unbiased media resources and mediums.
“It helps voters to have a sense of unity and belonging to one country in choosing good leaders.”
Mr Manedika said all the theatre groups from the provinces and SIDT Sie drama group will be conducting the awareness programs.
He added that they will perform a voter education awareness script and distribute brochures, magazines, comics and DVDs during the awareness programs.
Meanwhile SIDT drama group team leader Jordy Toiraena said the entire theatre groups are completing their final trainings on the script play and will kick start their programs next week.
Mr Toiraena said the program will run for 14 months in Honiara and throughout the provinces.
He calls on all drama group members to cooperate with their group leaders during the course of that program.
