THE Government has until April 19 to attend to grievances of teachers.
These grievances include housing allowance and leave passage.
General secretary of Solomon Islands National Teachers Association (SINTA) Samson Faisi said they have given the government until April 19 to attend to the grievances.
Failure, he said, will result in a nation-wide strike action.
“This is not an issue of yesterday. It’s a long overdue issue the government is well aware of, but simply failed to address,” Mr Faisi said.
“We’ve submitted our letter on January 26 to the government through the responsible ministry but till now we have not heard from them.”
Mr Faisi said he was only verbally told by the Director of Education in the ministry that a budget for teachers’ housing allowances and leave passage has been submitted to cabinet for consideration and for inclusion into the 2015 national budget.
“But this is only verbal talk. I want to hear from the ministry in black and white.”
He said the government must come out and tell the public and teachers what is its stand on the teachers’ grievances.
“Are they going to address it or sweep it under the carpet again,” Mr Faisi said.
He said the government must know SINTA is serious and will not back off from the threat to stage a nation-wide strike action.
