Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) and Solomon Island National University (SINU) have agreed to upgrade and maintain the Festival of the Pacific Arts (FOPA) village in east Honiara.
Permanent Secretary (PS) for the Ministry John Wasi revealed this to the Solomon Star yesterday.
Mr Wasi said, both organisations have agreed during a discussion meeting MCT held with SINU in Honiara last week.
“We have a meeting last week and agree that we’ll work in partnership together to upgrade and maintain FOPA village.
“Since we all understand FOPA village is the pride for this country and during our meeting we agree to upgrade the village as an icon place for this country,” Mr Wasi said .
He said, although the national budget was passed MTC will put some funds for the upgrading plan of the FOPA village.
“Our plan with SINU is to upgrade and maintain facilities in FOPA again like in 2012 since gov’t has spent millions of dollar on FOPA, so we agreed that work on the ground will be announced as soon we sign a MOU anytime,” Mr Wasi said.
