He said the University must be strategic in its operation and provide clear plan of action to deliver what it is envisaged to accomplish in terms of the vision and mission of the University.
“Simply the strategic plan defines and underpins the direction that SINU and beyond. This document is produced after extensive consultation is important to include values sought for stake holders and also the process takes into account the changing needs and challenges of the Higher Education today.
“With the level of consultation, I am confident that implementation of the plan will achieve the national mandate bestowed on SINU as a provider of tertiary education in Solomon Islands,” Dr Culwick said.
He said the 2021,-2025 Strategic Plan has a very strong footing and grounding on the key commitments, strategic actions and anticipated outcomes expected of SINU to be accountable and transparent in practice and also provide quality education, being competitive recognized both domestically and in the region.
“I understand that each faculty will devise its plan of action to implement the goals outlined in this Strategic Plan. There will be constraints in human resources locally and recruitment from overseas to fill the gap must be done while training of locals to have those necessary skills must also continue.
“Likewise, providing quality higher Education require modern infrastructure to create better learning and teaching environment, and strong, vibrant engagement and collaboration with the outside world in terms of research, knowledge creation and innovation. With these in mind, the strategic plan provide road map of defined goals where limited resources are focused on to achieve the intended outcomes within the five-year period. I must congratulate SINU that it has also established campuses in the Western Part of the Country and on Malaita within the next five years,” Dr Culwick added.
He further stated that SINU alone will not be able to implement the goals outlined in the Strategic Plan and therefore will be expecting the usual support from the National Government and stakeholders for the successful implementation of the strategic plan.
“The Solomon Islands Government will remain s Strategic Partner and in the same token, I would like to see Donor Partners, the Private Sector, the Civil Society, NGOs, Churches, SOEs, Education Institutions and Authorities and International Organisations who have local presence in Solomon Islands to engage and collaborate where you see fit and appropriate with the University,” Dr Togamana said.
