MEMBERS of the public have gone online to express their gratitude for the action taken by the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Solomon Islands National University (SINU), Professor Transform Aqorau, in dealing with staff of the institution over the allegations of fraud.
This came after five staff holding top positions within the university were implicated in an alleged fraud case within the university. Two of the five have already been terminated and the other three will be dealt with when a court order they had taken out to stay the university’s proceedings against them is lifted.
Many members of the public have commended Dr Aqorau for taking a bold step in addressing the matter which may have been going on for years.
A commentator said, “Dr Aqorau is a very rare person in the country. He’s truly a real Solomon Islander reflecting good work ethics, principles and his love for Christ. This nation needs more Aqorau.”
Another Solomon Islander acknowledged Professor Aqorau for showing impeccable, transparent, accountable and great leadership with integrity by adhering to highest ethical standards and acceptable code of conduct within the highest educational institution in the land.
“With strong leadership along with support from our University Council members, you made the right decisions and taking the right actions,” the local said.
Another Solomon Islanders said he was pleased to hear the news because some of the officials have been using the university to make money and start their own businesses.
The other issue raised is the ongoing absenteeism by SINU lecturers, especially at the Panatina Campus.
