THE Solomon Island Ports Authority (SIPA) has rendered a support of 222 medals for the Central Island province, Gerusa New year’s games.
SIPA Chief Financial Officer and the acting CEO, George Rausi handed over the medals to the sports coordinator of the Central Provincial government on Thursday last week.
The support will go towards the winning teams and consolation awards.
It is anticipated that the Central Island Gerusa Games will be the biggest competition in Central Island province.
A statement from the Gerusa games committee confirmed the kick off date will be from January 4th to January 9th.
Sports that will be included in the Games are Athletics, Beach volleyball, beach soccer, netball, Taekwondo, basketball, and canoeing.
Athletics sports will include track and field events.
Track events will feature 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, 10000m for both boys and girls.
Field events comprises of javelin, short put, discus, long jump, and high jump.
The Gerusa games 2023 organizing committee called on all central province ward sport association managers to register their teams before the competition kick-off date.
Gerusa games is a sporting event held annually by the Central Province for its youths and all the Central Island people as part of the Christmas and New Year celebration.
