Speaker of parliament, Sir Allan Kemakeza has been questioned and accused by Savo and Russell constituents’ for influencing the Biometric Voters Registration on pursuance for personal interests as an intending candidate.
William Runa raised the alarm claiming Sir Allan has been manipulating the election system on his status as chairman of electoral commission.
A formal complaint had been forwarded to the Leadership Code Commission urging for immediate investigation of the speaker’s intentions.
Leadership Code Commission office had confirmed receiving the complaint but could not detail whether it had reached the commission to deliberate on.
The complaint if received should have reached the chairman before forwarded to the commission to deliberate and make decision on.
In his letter of complaint, Mr Runa stated “Sir Allan’s capacity as chairman of the electoral commission, his involvement and influence in the registration process was very obvious and give rise to the integrity of his office and position.”
“His official position and responsibilities to advance his personal interest by employing his own son, daughter in-law and his cousin brother to become registration officer with Savo/Russell constituency is ridiculous,” he claimed.
Whilst “He already publicly declared in our constituency that he is running again this round,” his act in influencing the registration process is absurd, said Runa.
“This is not the kind of a leader we want to lead; certainly we the constituents had had enough of this type of leadership and is common knowledge to the concern people of the constituency.
“This call for immediate investigation from the leadership code commission to test his impartiality towards the course of the current registration process.”
Runa said his influence to the extent of hand picking a relative to do the revising of voters list during the objection period is how such a leader is desperate for power.
The concern constituent also alleged that Sir Allan through his cronies has been luring voters by buying voters ID cards.
“His younger brother was his agent in buying voters ID cards from registered voters within Savo/Russel. We have eyewitnesses and evidence to prove these allegations.”
Runa said as a prominent leader and former Prime Minister, Sir Allan places himself in a position of conflict of interest and abuse of his personal integrity.
“This is very serious allegations against the state which needs immediate intervention by LCC as we do not wish to discuss this information to the electoral office as he (Sir Allan) is the current head.
“It is our outmost concern that under the colour of official positioning the electoral duty, his interference and penetration in the registration process may have an adverse effect to the rights and freedom of the people of Savo/Russell if this matter is not address now.”
