Solomon Island Red Cross [SIRC] officially opens its kaikai house yesterday.
The kaikai house is being funded by European Union.
Mr Nicolas Boyrie head of Delegation French Red Cross said this kaikai house is to generate income to help SIRC in providing services.
“This kaikai house was mainly to generate income and sustain those who are in need and also to maintain our local food in the country.”
Joanne Zoleveke secretary general for SIRC stated the opening of the new facility is one of their achievements throughout this year.
“The main intention of the kaikai house is to improve the lives of the people in need without discrimination through voluntary work with people.”
Lorena Elvira Ayuso European Union representative to Solomon Island said that the main purpose of the project is to do renovation of smaller projects.
“We funded these types of project in Rennell and Bellona because the province have already affected by cyclone and storms in the past years.”
She said this kaikai house is to provide them with food especially when it comes to disaster times.
She added that EU will still fund these types of projects until the end of September this year.
