The Solomon Islands Rugby Union Federation (SIRUF) executive committee has confirmed that they will send a team to compete in the upcoming Oceania U20 Rugby 15s Championship in September.
SIRUF is aiming to send a competitive side possible to the said tournament, hence the federation is looking at selecting and training the best national players aged 19 and under possible to represent Solomon Islands in this prestigious tournament.
As the first step in the selection process, SIRUF calls on schools that are competing in the current Credit Corporation High Schools competition, clubs from the Honiara Rugby Union Association (HRUA) and other Rugby Union Associations of SIRUF in the provinces, to submit names of players that fall under the age category to the Solomon Islands Rugby office from now until mid-next week.
The names will make up the trial squad that will be called for trials later next week.
SIRUF wishes to inform schools, clubs and associations in Honiara and the provinces that those players whose names will be submitted must be the best players from that school, or club, or association.
Upon receiving these names, SIRUF will announce a trial squad late next week, which will get together in Honiara to play a series of trial matches where a train on squad will be picked from to kick start training.
This squad will be further trimmed as time goes to a final squad of 25 players who will represent Solomon Islands in the mentioned tournament.
To submit names schools, clubs and associations can forward these lists to the SIRUF Admin Manager, Nick Hatigeva, via email: [email protected] or hand deliver them to the SIRUF office at Town Ground, or to the SIRUF Vice President Development, Mr. George Tema, at Diesel Services Ltd, Ranandi, from now until Wednesday 15th June.
