THE Solomon Islands Rugby Union Federation (SIRUF) is urging local rugby clubs to look for opportunities abroad in developing their players.
SIRUF made the call in light of a weeklong tour by Henderson Hammerheads rugby club tour to Gold Coast, Australia this week.
“Henderson Hammerheads Rugby Club tour of Gold Coast, 1st – 8th March, 2018. Having to make such tour need clubs to have a good club Board, team management and sacrifice to make such tour a success.
“If HHH can make such tour then other clubs can also take up the challenge to develop the club fan base, player data, club profile and help motivate players through such incentives and exposer. Hope other clubs will look at those opportunities to develop their players.
“Islanders RC is another club that has taken the same initiative to give exposer through its connection with Fiji clubs with the 7s program.
“Well done Henderson Hammerheads and Islanders RCs,” statements on SIRUF official social media page reads.
Reports reaching Star Sports stated HHH had a thriving tour against some second and third grade club sides in Gold Coast last week
The local heavyweight club side managed to beat Curumbin Alleygators 5-0 and Wyanum Manly Bugs 12-0 over the weekend.
HHH media reported it was good wins from the boys and they showed good sportsmanship in all their encounters.
Locals in Australia also turned out in numbers to support the lads during their games.
The Hammerheads should have wrap up their Gold Coast tour yesterday against Nerang Bulls at Glennon Park but the game was cancelled.
