THE Solomon Islands Students Association (SISA) in Fiji Independence Day games will start today.
This is part of the SISA’s objectives to engage Solomon Islands students studying in Fiji universities to take part in sporting activities organised to mark the country’s 38th independence anniversary.
Games organised by the student body will start today, according to a senior student, who is involved in the organisation of the activities.
“Soccer matches will commence on Friday while other sports will get off the ground next week,” the student said.
He said teams are currently training since last week.
“Competitions are anticipated to be tougher this year,” he said.
He revealed that soccer, netball, touch rugby, basketball and volleyball are sports that will be featured during the competition.
“This is a week-long sporting event organised by SISA to mark our Independence Day celebration on 7 July.
“There will be also cultural dance performances to be staged by our students here.”
