The Solomon Island Visitors Bureau (SIVB) on Tuesday handed over a cheaque of $15, 000 to the organisers of the 2014 Aquila Talasasa festival set to start today in Gizo.
SIVB event organize officer Stella Lucas handed over the cheaqu to the organizing committee saying, the money is to support the committee organize the event.
SIVB has approved $30,000 for the event. Half of the remaining balance would be handed over after the festival.
She said the bureau is committed to supporting such homegrown event to bring more overseas visitors into the country.
“SIVB believe very much in festival as an avenue to bring more visitors here, plus to revive our culture. So we normally support every festival that is being organized in the country.”
She said the recent yacht festival held in Florida Island Central province was also supported by SIVB.
Festival coordinator Kawea Tiroia thanked SIVB for the funding assistance.
“On behalf of the Western provincial government and our organizing team, we would like to thank SIVB for the funding assistance.
“We would continue to work in hand with SIVB to organise more events in the future,” he said.
