Honiara city needs additional hotels to cater for more tourists and visitors arrival.
Barney Sivoro chair of Our Telekom national tourism forum (NTF) and director of tourism highlighted this during the forum held last Friday at Heritage Hotel.
Mr Sivoro said Honiara city needs 4-5 star hotels in Honiara as a holding ground for tourists travelling to the provinces.
“I did a short presentation about this because Solomon Islands National Provident Fund(SINPF) have a better land in towns if they could consider investing in such a development, it would be good.
“This is due to the shortage of land as the PS for lands announced. We could see that the SMI area owned NPF is a good portion of land very suitable for such development.
“So if wecould only put the idea to them which was well received and according to SINPF management they are still working on it. They are doing their own research and if satisfied with the prospect, they will seek their board’s approval before embarking on the venture,” Mr Sivoro said.
He said the idea is for them to build it and get an internationally recognized management company to come and manage it.
Meanwhile Mr Sivoro thanked SINPF management for being part of the forum.
More than 200 participants both local and international attended the forum where various issues affecting the tourism industry in the country was highlighted.
