SOLOMON Power customers are breathing a sigh of relief with the slight drop in electricity charges for this month.
This means both residential and commercial customers can have few extra units when paying for their electricity.
The latest rate for this month of June reveals that kilowatts for residences are selling at 6.22 per kWh unit, which is slightly lower than last month (May) when they were sold at 6.36.
This means that this month, residences would spend $100 you get 16.1kWh units. Whilst with $100, residences were only able to get 15.7kWh unites last month.
Solomon Power explained that the adjustments were made in accordance with the Electricity Act (Cap.128) and the Electricity (Charges for Supply) (No.5) Regulations 2023. The electricity tariffs have been reviewed and new rates of charges for the supply of electricity take effect as of 1st June.
The drop came as fuel prices recorded a slight drop, it added.
The reduction in electricity and fuel prices offers some savings for domestic customers this month much to their relief.
A customer in Gizo, Western Province, Dykes Trino said it is good to see a reduction in the electricity charges for this month because it would allow families to save some money.
Many businesses and homes depend on electricity to do business and operate their office equipment and home appliances.
Solomon Islands is regarded as one of the countries in the world with the high electricity cost and the government is looking at reducing the cost.
With the Tina Hydropower Project up and running in few years time, there is hope that it would reduce fossil fuel reliance in Honiara City and reduce electricity cost.
