THE South New Georgia Rendova and Tetepare (SNR&T) Constituency will prioritise women’s development initiatives and called on all women in the constituency to organise themselves to seek support from the constituency office in Honiara.
The Constituency Development Officer for the SNR&T Constituency, Douglas Alex stated this at Buruku School campus on New Year’s Day when he and Member of Parliament (MP) for SNR&T Constituency, David Gina visited Ughele community to celebrate the New Year 2025.
They were invited by Ughele women to join their New Year celebration in Ughele Village.
While attending the New Year celebration, Mr Alex, who is also from Ughele village, seized the opportunity to inform people in Ughele that SNR&T Constituency will prioritise development initiatives by women because addressing the issues of women is basically about addressing the issues for the entire constituency.
“Our four years of assistance will go towards women.
“We want to empower women to look after their families and children and look after themselves,” he said.
Mr Alex said the basic thing about the constituency is that it starts with families. “And when I say families, it’s not about men, but women. You get yourselves organised and come forward. That is what we want,” Mr Alex added.
Mr Alex assured the Ughele community that the regime of MP Gina will support voters and non-voters because as MP, he represents the entire constituency in all the development aspects.
Though Gina is in office for only nine months now, the impact of his assistance has been felt right across the entire constituency.
Mr Alex stated SNR&T constituency funds belong to the entire constituency and not MP Gina and himself.
“We don’t discriminate against anyone,” he added.
Mr Alex said as a legislature, MP Gina will go into Parliament to make laws for the country, while he will look after the constituency office.
Nevertheless, he said they will consult each other on development programmes and aspirations for the constituency.
“The SNR&T Constituency will provide services to enable communities to be resilient. Therefore, people must organise themselves into groups before going to the constituency office to submit their proposals for consideration and implementation,” Mr Alex said.
Mr Alex told the people of Ughele that there are two answers to all the needs and that is ‘Yes’ or ‘No.’
“But when the answer is no, please don’t be furious because there are more people to be assisted,” he added.
Mr Alex also called on all constituents for their cooperation as SNR&T Constituency Office will implement MP Gina’s priorities and visions for the constituency.
