FORMER Member of Parliament (MP) for East Choiseul Manasseh Sogavare has urged all Solomon Islanders to choose God fearing leaders who have visions to lead this country.
Speaking during a gathering at Gilbert Camp in east Honiara over the weekend, Mr Sogavare said the country is at its crucial state, where electing of God fearing visionary leaders is important for the future of this country.
“It is time that we choose leaders who are God-Fearing, leaders that can take this nation forward, leaders with vision, leaders who puts the interest of the people at heart,” Mr Sogavare said.
During the event Mr Sogavare encouraged young leaders who have the heart and vision to lead the country to stand up and lead without fear.
He acknowledged the bravery that one of the young council leaders has taken to lead communities within ward 12 of Honiara city.
Mr Sogavare made mention of Jimmy Ramoli of whom he has given full support towards his bid to contest the East Honiara seat.
The former PM and long time politician said Mr Ramoli has shown maturity in his leadership and has done good things for the communities in his ward.
“…this is the kind of leadership that we need at this crucial moment, leadership that can put the interest of the community before themselves. The good job Ramoli has done for communities and organisations within Panatina Ward as their current City Council member is appealing,” Sogavare said.
The Solomon Star is aware Mr Ramoli is one of the 16 candidates to contest the east Honiara seat held formally by Douglas Ete.
Jimmy Ramoli who has also kick started his campaign last week based his theme on three pillars of ‘Community, Cooperation & Change’.
Mr Ramoli believes that change can only happen if everyone cooperate and organize themselves properly to condition the notion of development along with strong moral and ethical leadership values.
Basing his platform on community development, Mr Ramoli said, “We cannot address bigger things if we do not start from small ones”.
Meanwhile Mr Sogavare highlighted that community and cooperation is fundamental to democracy if this country wants to see change.
Mr Ramoli is contesting as a shadow candidate of ‘Our Party’ led by Mr Manasseh Sogavare.
